Calea zacatechichi is a plant used by the Chiapas and Chontal Indians of Mexico to obtain divinatory messages during dreaming. The Chontal Indians, who believe in visions seen in dreams, take tea of Calea zacatechichi with crushed dried leaves (tastes disgusting) or smoke cigarettes from the leaves before going to sleep.
Calea provides a restful and drowsy effect. The psychoactive effect is subtle and can be described as dreamlike. Mexican Indians consider calea as a hallucinogen, although no hallucinogenic alkaloid has been isolated yet.
Calea Zacatechichi is a heavily branching shrub that is native to the high altitude cloudforests in a small area of the southern Mexican sierra. The Chontal indians make a tea from the crushed leaves. They call the plant by the name of "Thle-pelakano" which means " leaf of the god". The Chontal medicine men believe in visions seen in dreams and say Calea 'clarifies the senses'.
There are also reports of the dried leaves being smoked as cigarettes to induce "visions and clairvoyant, dream-like states in which they often perceived voices of the gods and spirits who reveal the cause of diseases, decipher the future or maybe help find lost objects. Scientifically demonstrated to increase the frequency of lucid dreams."
3 to 25 grams of the crushed dried leaves are drunk as tea. It tastes very bitter.
Comes packed in 15g bag.
